Board Chair, Bellingham Food Co-op
Melissa has served on the Community Food Co-op’s Board of Directors since 2013 and recently wrapped up a three-year stint as the Board Chair. During the day, she works for the local public health department where she spent five years leading community organizing and policymaking projects related to food insecurity and access to healthy food, safe and affordable transportation options, access to green spaces, and place-making, and helped start the Whatcom Food Network, a food system group that connects organizations from all sectors of the local food system. She now manages public health communications for Whatcom County. Born and bred in North Dakota and Montana, Melissa moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1996, fell in love with the North Cascade mountains, and now tries to spend as much time as possible exploring them. She has a BS in Developmental Biology and another in Community Health Education.
